Bulls Say

  • Strict regulations is catalyzing an increase in renovation activity to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, which contribute one third of energy-related carbon emissions.

  • Divestments of its lower-margin distribution businesses will support structurally higher profitability for the group.

  • The acquisitions of Fosroc, GCP Applied Technologies, and Chryso will benefit from rising infrastructure spending and the shift to greener construction materials.

Bears Say

  • Political uncertainty and low business confidence in France, the group's largest market, continue to mitigate strong performance in its Americas and construction chemicals businesses.

  • Saint-Gobain has divested all its businesses with an EBITDA margin of below 5%, leaving limited opportunity to fund future acquisitions via divestments to achieve margin uplift.

  • The consolidation of building distributors in the US may place pressure on the selling prices and margins Saint-Gobain is able to achieve.
