Bulls Say
A smaller technological gap compared with Qualcomm enables MediaTek to capture market share in 5G smartphone SoCs.
The price performance of new SoC entrants’ releases are unable to match with MediaTek, given they have to design around MediaTek’s 443 patents related to 5G standards.
MediaTek can establish lasting relationships with multiple automakers and Internet of Things service vendors.
Bears Say
Smartphone vendors who design their own SoCs will gain market share. With stable phone shipments, MediaTek’s addressable market will shrink.
Newcomers can easily license patents from Qualcomm and ARM Holdings to develop new SoCs.
U.S. sanctions on Chinese tech companies may result in restrictions on MediaTek's SoC sales.
